It's like a hate-to-love romance twist on John Marrs' The One (which I loved!) I'm excited!

This is a rounded up 3.5 stars, because I'm always going to round up a Christina Lauren book. The things this book has going for it are many:
1) A love interest who is compared to Keanu Reeves repeatedly.
2) A best friend I believe in.
3) Science nerdiness as foreplay.
4) A cute kid who is recognizably 7 and not moppet-like precocious.
5) An allusion to Mia from the Wild Seasons books!
6) Good, solid chemistry between the protagonists, but it's earned - it takes a while to get there but I believe in every step.
Why I didn't love it:
1) The ending is flat.
2) The part about Jess's mom is predictable and not particularly fleshed out, BUT
3) I didn't want it to be fleshed out; I was happy for it to be background noise. I shouldn't want for background noise.
4) Again, I really didn't love the rushed quality of the ending, or how much is left open ended.
5) Why is this going to be a hardcover? I get it - I do. The publisher wants to capitalize on the known quantity of sales for Christina Lauren. But this book isn't markedly different than any of their previous books, and as a completist I can't imagine I'll like having a hardcover on my full shelf of paperbacks, and I'm not sure it's worth $27... even if I really like Jess and River.

Y’ALL.
I got to read this early, and all I’m going to say is that C and Lo are amazing at what they do. This book gave me so many emotions, lovable characters, and enough nerd love to make my science-loving butt happy. Do yourself a favor and PLEASE read it.
Best book of 2021, already calling it. ✨

Oh my heart.
Y'all this is might be my favorite CLo book.
The realness of characters is my favorite part. The single mom struggle was so real. The incorporating of a child into the storytelling added so many layers.
Fizzy and Jess are friendship goals.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A single mom holding it together the best she can (whose attention is) divided by an adorably precocious kid plus a scientist who looks like Keanu Reeves trying to get to the (square) root of DNA's role in compatibility equals a delightful romance. Forced dating is not a trope I often enjoy, but it was very well done and the consequential relationship hiccups felt natural given the parameters. Bonus points to the world's best best friend -- Fizzy 4ever! Finished largely in one night waiting for sleep during an OMG the lead up to winter break migraine.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5stars)
Smart, funny and feel good, this is the nerdy romcom you need to read this spring!!!
Jess is a single mom with loving grandparents, a big brain, and abandonment issues. She works her booty off to provide the best life for her kid and very much does not have time to date—-statistically speaking.
Fizzy is the perfect bestie in her carefree and fun demeanor, forcing Jess out of her comfort zone and into trying new things... like DNAbased dating trials.
When Jess matches with a shockingly high number to River, the founder of GeneticAlly, she can’t run fast enough. He’s stuck up and stubborn and not an ounce of fun. But when the company foots the bill for them to spend time together, she decides the price is worth the pain. As the pair get to know each other, they learn that maybe genes aren’t the only thing they have in common.
The pace of this story was perfection! A fast, fun read I couldn’t put down.
The characters balanced and challenged each other and each felt well developed—more like a friend than a fictional person.
As a mom with bachelors of science in mathematics, I appreciate the research that went into creating Jess’s character. Christina and Lauren hit the bullseye with the accuracy here and it felt so good to see a nerdy single mom fall in love.
If you like enemies to lovers, smart girls, feel good endings, and fantastic writing, then add this to your tbr immediately!
I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!!!!!!
*thank you to Gallery Books and Edelweiss for providing an ARC of The Soulmate Equation in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I'd give this one 3 stars based on its current format. There were lots of weirdly repetitive words (so many laughs were choked out, so much wincing happened), and some typos.
BUT, it won't get published for six full months, and the actual story was lovely, so I'm hoping they'll fix those things in editing in the next six months!
I did love the synchronicity of Jessica, the main character, having a 7 year old named Juno who loves to snuggle, because I am a Jessica, who has a 7 year old Juliet who loves to snuggle. <3
